Alessandro De Maddalena (Milan, Italy, 1970) is a shark expert. He’s a researcher, author, illustrator, photographer and expedition leader.
He earned a ‘Laurea Magistrale’, equivalent to a Master of Science, M.Sc., in Natural Sciences, from the University of Milan.
He is an Adjunct Professor of Vertebrate Zoology for the post-graduate course in Marine Sciences at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy.
He’s a collaborator of Apex Shark Expeditions, (South Africa), Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions (Australia), Strømsholmen Sjøsportsenter (Norway), and has hosted over 50 expeditions with them.
During these expeditions he gives courses in biology of sharks (in South Africa and Australia) and orcas (in Norway).
He is the author or co-author of 20 books on sharks, 35 research reports in peer-reviewed scientific journals and over 80 articles in popular and professional magazines, published in 18 Nations.
His photos and illustrations of sharks and other marine animals have appeared in numerous books, scientific journals and popular magazines.
He has also given many lectures on shark biology at universities, museums and diving associations.
From 2010 he’s touring the world with his lectures on the great white shark: so far he had over 100 dates in 15 Countries with a total attendance of over 10,000 people.
