Domenico, Mimmo Drago was born in Palermo and lives here.
In 1970, as a student of the Degree Course in Biological Sciences and as a “lover” of the Sea, he compiled a thesis entitled: “Contribution to the study of submerged biocenoses of the West coast of the Gulf of Palermo” and after he graduated with the maximum of votes.
After numerous specialization courses in Italy and abroad he becomes Marine Biologist and is offered the teaching of the subject "Marine Biology and Fishing Technique" at the State Professional Institute, which he carries out for a year.
Subsequently, as a winner of competitions, with the role of Researcher, he first practiced the profession at the CNR (National Research Council) in the project aimed at Oceanography , a sub-project of Biological Resources and subsequently at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Palermo referring to the teaching of the General Botany and the specialist course of Marine Botany, which takes place at the Department of Botanical Sciences of the same University.
For his experience, he is also named the holder of the Complementary Module "Elements of Naturalistic Photography" which he carries out for the students of the Degree Course in Natural Sciences and Biological Sciences, both above and under water.
During his career he has published over a hundred scientific memoirs, both nationally and internationally, as well as the scientific book: "The submerged vegetation of the Sicilian seas, iconographic features".
Underwater photography becomes his working tool for documenting the breath of the sea and the pulsations of biodiversity, but he tries to go further to try to understand his feelings and his troubles through visions.
He collaborates as a journalist, with newspapers and magazines in Italy and abroad, he realizes photographic exhibitions on biodiversity, publishes monographs with texts and images and the prestigious book “Tonnare”, of which he also presents a prestigious exhibition.
He joined the Multivision in 1985 which revealed a unique and unparalleled message of communication to tell and tell about himself.
He also feels the need to sublimate the texts of his multivisions even more and therefore decides to use poetry as a communicative text that will prove to be a winner.
And the poetry of Pablo Neruda becomes the protagonist in many of his works.
He is awarded at the most important International Multivision Festivals; at the Mondial de l'Image Sous Marine Festival in Antibes and Marseille, he won 11 times consecutively, creating a record that no other author in the world has achieved today, winning the Strasbourg Festival nine times in a row, a record that too; four times the San Sebastian Festival, wins the Paris Trophy de Paris and La Coupe Lumier in Paris, wins the Audience Award at the Chelles Festival in Paris and then again repeatedly wins other prestigious first prizes in the Multivision Festivals in Holland, Germany, Belgium, England, Australia, New Caledonia, Romania, Turkey, Greece, Czech Republic.
In 2001 he was awarded the coveted Golden Trident Prize by the International Academy of Underwater Sciences and Techniques for the thirty-year scientific and popular activity carried out by means of Multivisions.
He is invited to prestigious national but especially international events to tell the Sea with images and the Poetry of his Multivisions, which, to date, appear to be over 20.
He was Guest of Honor at the Antibes and Marseilles Festival and in 2004 on the occasion of the Centenary of the Birth of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, the Ambassador of Chile in Italy and the President of the Pablo Neruda Foundation of Santiago de Chile, they invited him to the Capitol Protomoteca for the opening event of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The President of the Republic of Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, on that occasion sent a congratulatory telegram to the author and the then Senator Giorgio Napolitano, together with the government ministers, assisted at the Concert in Multivision, "Pablo Neruda, the Sea in the Soul" conceived and presented by Domenico Drago.
Another of his works in multivision titled “…I Cried” built between the coral reef of the Sinai peninsula and the Monastery of St. Catherine at the foot of the mountain of the same name, where the tables of the law were handed over to Moses, a work that tells a path through fragments of the Bible mystical and existential, it was given to His Holiness Pope Francis who expressed his appreciation with one donated to a letter of thanks and esteem.

BIOGRAFIA di DOMENICO DRAGO
Domenico, Mimmo Drago nasce a Palermo e qui vive.
Nel 1970, da studente del Corso di Laurea in Scienze Biologiche e da “patito” del Mare, compila una tesi dal titolo: “Contributo allo studio delle biocenosi sommerse del la costa Occidentale del Golfo di Palermo” e dopo si laurea con il massimo dei voti.
Dopo numerosi corsi di specializzazioni in Italia ed all’estero diventa Biologo Marino e gli viene offerto l’insegnamento della materia “Biologia Marina e Tecnica della pesca”presso l’Istituto professionale di Stato, che svolge per un anno.
Successivamente, da vincitore di concorsi, con il ruolo di Ricercatore, esercita prima la professione al C.N.R.(Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche) nel progetto finalizzato Oceanografia e Fondi Marini, sottoprogetto Risorse Biologiche e successivamente presso la Facoltà di Scienze dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo afferendo all’insegnamento della Botanica Generale e del corso specialistico di Botanica Marina, che svolge presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Botaniche della stessa Università.
Per la sua esperienza, inoltre viene nominato Titolare del Modulo Complementare “Elementi di Fotografia Naturalistica” che svolge per gli studenti del Corso di Laurea in Scienze Naturali e Scienze Biologiche, sia sopra che sott’acqua.
Pubblica, durante la sua carriera, oltre cento memorie scientifiche sia in campo nazionale che internazionale ed anche il volume scientifico: “La vegetazione sommersa dei mari siciliani, lineamenti iconografici”.
La fotografia subacquea diventa il suo strumento di lavoro per documentare il respiro del mare e le pulsazioni della biodiversità, ma prova a spingersi oltre per cercare di comprendere attraverso le visioni anche i propri sentimenti ed i propri turbamenti.
Collabora, da giornalista-pubblicista, con testate giornalistiche e con riviste in Italia ed all’estero, realizza mostre fotografiche sulla biodiversità, pubblica monografie con testi ed immagini e il prestigioso libro Tonnare , di cui presenta anche una mostra prestigiosa.
Approda alla Multivisione nel 1985 che si svela messaggio di comunicazione unico e senza confronti per raccontare e raccontarsi.
Sente anche la necessità di sublimare ancora di più i testi delle sue multivisioni e pertanto decide di utilizzare la poesia come testo comunicativo che risulterà vincente.
E la poesia di Pablo Neruda diventa così protagonista in numerose sue opere.
Viene premiato nei più importanti Festival Internazionali di Multivisione; al Festival Mondial de l’Image Sous Marine di Antibes e di Marsiglia, vince 11 volte consecutivamente, realizzando un record che nessun altro autore al mondo ha oggi conseguito, vince nove volte consecutivamente il Festival di Strasburgo, record anche questo; quattro volte il Festival di San Sebastian, vince a Parigi il Trofeo de Paris e La Coupe Lumier, vince il Premio del Pubblico al Festival di Chelles sempre a Parigi e poi ancora vince ripetutamente altri primi premi prestigiosi nei Festival di Multivisione in Olanda, Germania, Belgio, Inghilterra, Australia, Nuova Caledonia, Romania, Turchia, Grecia, Repubblica Ceca.
Nell’anno 2001 gli viene conferito l’ambito premio Tridente d’Oro dall’Accademia Internazionale di Scienze e Tecniche Subacquee per la trentennale Attività scientifica e divulgativa realizzata per mezzo delle Multivisioni.
E’invitato in prestigiosi eventi nazionali ma soprattutto internazionali a raccontare il Mare con le immagini e la Poesia delle sue Multivisioni, che, ad oggi, risultano essere oltre 20.
E’ stato Ospite d’Onore al Festival di Antibes e di Marsiglia e nell’anno 2004 in occasione del Centenario della nascita del poeta cileno Pablo Neruda, l’Ambasciatore del Cile in Italia ed il Presidente della Fondazione Pablo Neruda di Santiago del Cile, lo invitarono alla Protomoteca del Campidoglio per l’evento di apertura delle celebrazioni del Centenario della Nascita del Premio Nobel per la Letteratura.

Il Presidente della Repubblica Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, in quella occasione invia all’autore un telegramma di felicitazione ed l’allora Senatore Giorgio Napolitano, assiste, insieme ai ministri del governo, al Concerto in Multivisione, “Pablo Neruda, il Mare nell’Anima” ideato e presentato da Domenico Drago.
Un’altra sua opera in multivisione titolata Ho Pianto realizzata fra la barriera corallina della penisola del Sinai ed il Monastero di Santa Caterina ai piedi del monte omonimo, dove furono consegnate le tavole della legge a Mosè, opera che racconta attraverso frammenti della Bibbia un percorso mistico ed esistenziale, è stata donata a Sua Santità Papa Francesco che ne ha manifestato apprezzamento con una lettera di ringraziamento e di stima.
