CARL CHARTER (Australia)
Carl learnt to dive with BSAC Adelaide in 1985 but was certified by FAUI when he moved to Jervis Bay NSW in 1986. For two years Carl enjoyed diving Jervis Bay, Kiama, Sydney and Bateman’s Bay with his father while completing high school. Carl’s introduction to underwater photography was in 1986 when he used his dad’s Minolta with housing and strobe. Between 1990-95 while studying Bachelor of Applied Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture Carl dived Split Solitary Islands, Byron bay and Broken Head.
Carl purchased his first underwater camera – an Olympus SP-350 with PT-030 housing in 2005. He was hooked! Carl bought a Panasonic LumixDMC-TZ7 and housing from a friend in 2010. In 2014 Carl upgraded to a second hand Nikon D80 and Aquatica housing from a friend and kitted it out with a 10.5mm & 60mm lens, two S&S Strobes and focusing light.
Carl has just returned from a 3 month diving and family adventure where he qualified as a PADI open Water Instructor and specialty Digital Underwater Photography instructor in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and then dived Sipadan Island, KohLanta (Thailand) and Tulamben (Bali). In the past Carl has also dived Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
When Carl isn’t instructing you can find him diving Rapid Bay and Encounter Bay South Australia – in search of the allusive sea dragon.
