CHRISTIAN LLEWELLYN
Christian never limits himself with boundaries. He loves expressing himself through various mediums, creating art and sharing moments of his life for the joy of others. His education and working life have revolved all forms of media and art. Including a degree in film, courses in media, fine art, photography, graphic design, post-production, lighting, sound, advertising, and corporate communication.
He first learnt photography from his Grandfather who worked at Kodak, and for whom photography was his passion and hobby. Christian’s first cameras were a Praktica SLR and a Mamiya C33 medium format. These cameras truly opened his eyes to photography and the art of controlling the image.
Christian has also been in and around water his whole life, and actually openly admits feeling safer in the water than on dry land. Teaching himself how to snorkel at a very early age, he fondly remembers watching Jacque Cousteau in the 70’s and wanting to scuba. However he did not progress to diving until the 90’s and in 2004 he made a life change from London and moved to Cyprus to undertake training as a Scuba Instructor and start promoting marine and turtle conservation. His limitless passion for the sea and diligent patience were well suited for instructing, and Christian is a PADI IDC instructor with specialty training in numerous fields of scuba.
It was no surprise then that he would want to capture his underwater life as well. He started with disposable cameras, a Sea life reef master for a few years and then as the world of digital emerged he had various compact cameras. However his love of film made him focus on purchasing and filming with various video cameras ending up with his last being the first HD Sony DV cam.
Now Christian dives with an Olympus OMD EM5, Nauticam housing and dual Inon Z240’s. His passion for marine life is still as strong as it ever was and has started publishing his work as a photo journalist in various scuba publications, as well as winning various minor photographic competitions.
He is the manager of X-posure Underwater, specializing in creating artwork from underwater images. He also has a blog page under the same name on Facebook, promoting conservation and his life underwater. Furthermore he is the manager of the Facebook Group “Wrecks Of The World,” which promotes travel, wrecks and marine ecology conservation through artificial reefs.
